ABOUT US

What is Susthaa?

Susthaa does not deal with medical or psychological emergencies. We are not designed to offer support in crisis situations – including when an individual is experiencing thoughts of self-harm or suicide, or is showing symptoms of severe clinical disorders such as schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions. In these cases, in-person medical intervention is the most appropriate form of help.

If you feel you are experiencing any of these difficulties, we would urge you to seek help at the nearest hospital or emergency room where you can connect with a psychiatrist, social worker, counsellor or therapist in person. We recommend you to involve a close family member or a friend who can offer support.

You can also reach out to a suicide hotline in your place of residence: http://www.healthcollective.in/contact/helplines

ABOUT US

Who CAN avail tele-consultation?

  1. Individuals with Mental Health Concerns: People experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, or any other mental health condition can benefit from teleconsultation. This includes both those who have been previously diagnosed and those seeking assistance for the first time.
  2. Remote or Rural Areas: Teleconsultation can be particularly valuable for individuals residing in remote or rural areas where access to mental health services might be limited. It allows them to receive support without the need for extensive travel.
  3. Busy Professionals: People with demanding work schedules might find it challenging to fit in traditional in-person appointments. Teleconsultation provides the flexibility to receive support at times that are more convenient for them.
  4. Individuals with Mobility Challenges: People with mobility issues, physical disabilities, or chronic illnesses that make travel difficult can benefit from teleconsultation, as it eliminates the need for them to leave their homes.
  5. Stigmatized Conditions: For those concerned about the stigma associated with seeking mental health services in their community, teleconsultation offers a more discreet option.
  6. Caregivers: Family members or caregivers of individuals with mental health conditions can also benefit from teleconsultation. It provides them with guidance, coping strategies, and support to better assist their loved ones.
  7. Adolescents and Young Adults: Young individuals might be more comfortable seeking help through digital platforms, as they are accustomed to using technology for communication and information seeking.
  8. Expatriates and Travelers: People who are temporarily living in a different country or frequently travel can maintain continuity of care by accessing mental health services through teleconsultation.
  9. Individuals with Social Anxiety: People with social anxiety or discomfort in face-to-face interactions may find teleconsultation less intimidating and more manageable.
  10. Follow-Up and Maintenance: Teleconsultation can be useful for follow-up appointments, medication management, and maintaining progress after the initial in-person consultation

Who CANNOT avail tele-consultation?

  1. Emergency Situations: If someone is in immediate danger, experiencing severe distress, suicidal thoughts, or exhibiting behaviours that require immediate intervention, teleconsultation may not provide the level of help needed. In such cases, seeking in-person emergency assistance or contacting a crisis hotline is essential.
  2. Lack of Technology or Connectivity: Individuals who do not have access to a reliable internet connection, a suitable device, or the necessary technology skills might face challenges in participating effectively in a teleconsultation.
  3. Complex Medical or Psychological Conditions: For individuals with severe mental illnesses that require close monitoring, intensive interventions, or complex assessments, in-person sessions with specialized care providers may be more appropriate.
  4. Cognitive Impairment: People with cognitive impairments, severe memory deficits, or conditions affecting their ability to engage in meaningful conversations might not benefit as much from teleconsultation.
  5. Language or Communication Barriers: If the individual and the mental health provider do not share a common language or if communication barriers hinder effective dialogue, teleconsultation might not be suitable.
  6. Privacy Concerns: In situations where someone does not have access to a private and confidential space to conduct the teleconsultation, their ability to discuss personal and sensitive matters openly might be compromised.
  7. Lack of Informed Consent: If the individual does not fully understand the nature of teleconsultation, the potential benefits, risks, and limitations, they may not be able to provide informed consent for the service.
  8. Urgent Medication Management: For cases that require immediate adjustment of medication dosages, especially if physical health parameters need to be monitored, an in-person visit might be necessary.
  9. Lack of Engagement or Motivation: Teleconsultation requires active engagement and motivation from both the client and the mental health provider. If the individual is not fully committed to participating in the process, the effectiveness of teleconsultation could be limited.
  10. Legal and Regulatory Restrictions: Some jurisdictions or regulatory bodies might have restrictions on providing mental health services via teleconsultation for certain conditions or populations.
